Since we were traveling I’m scrambling to meet some deadlines. So this will be short.
The theme this week seems to be existential angst. I re-watched Everything Everywhere All At Once on the plane.
Then this brilliant must-watch short came across my email:
And then somehow I was talked into watching Fight Club! Oh, man, I never saw that movie when it came out in 1999 and I guess I had no idea it was deeply psychological and so much about fathers. Fight Club is based on a book by Chuck Palahniuk.
Tyler Durden, played by Brad Pitt, says:
“What you have to understand is that your father is your model for God.”
He goes on to say that if men in particular don’t know their father well then they end up spending their lives searching for a father and God.
In between this philosophizing, guys beat the crap out of each other in horrendous basements and the Edward Norton character appears to have an epic psychotic break. But it’s really, as I said, about existential angst. Though I guess people think it’s about fighting?? Anyhow, that’s my way of saying happy father’s day folks! :)
