Thanks to Belinda, my son and I got to attend Magic Castle Live on Stage at the United Theater on Broadway last night in downtown L.A. Queen of cards Anna DeGuzman and French wonder Remi Lasvenes may have been my faves, but every performer was incredible. My son LOVED it. Of course, the shows were sold out. Sources tell me it’ll happen again next year so, in advance, I highly recommend getting tix if you’re in Los Angeles.
Speaking of Los Angeles, I’m not a hater but I have to say OC has us beat with airports. I picked up my oldest son at John Wayne Airport this morning and it was an oasis compared to the nightmare that is LAX. I guess with all the LAX construction the promise is that some day it should be a normal airport that functions well (like everyone else seems to have!), but I’ll believe it when I see it…
My Entertainment Confessions
I had this conversation with a friend the other day: I don’t doom scroll. I don’t do video games. I don’t even Wordle. So what do I do that involves digital content but it’s just kind of mindless entertainment? Well, I’m a total sucker for home design and fashion stories. I never write about these two subjects so it somehow makes sense. Yes, I’m an easy target for VOGUE Daily headers like:

4 Common Decorating Mistakes to Avoid
There’s major tile inspo in this Minneapolis reno
That last one is from Domino and, strangely, the feature story and the photo that lured me ended up being about sex educator Ericka Hart’s New Jersey Reno. I don’t know anything about Hart, but her home decor is fab. Don’t you agree?
If you’ve been reading all these weeks, you probably saw this coming…there’s a ME ME ME tie in here. So here goes… guess who is talking about Waterloo, Iowa??
Gen Z Paradise
Hmmm… I was a few decades ahead of this trend. None other than the stylish Domino recently published a list of desirable places Gen Z folks are moving and my hometown ranked number 4. I never resist mentioning a Waterloo sighting. So here you go…
Of course, they’re moving to these places because of home prices, which is so smart. But maybe also…
Future Urban Climates Calculator
I’ve told many people about the Future Urban Climates Calculator, a tool that indicates what the weather will likely be in your area 60 years from now. I know how smart Gen Zers are and I suspect they also understand that places like the Midwest will likely be more habitable than places like — ahem — Los Angeles decades from now. So there’s that. I know, it’s a bit scary.
Driving Moccasin Love
Let’s end with something more fun. Several months ago, thanks to VOGUE Daily, I discovered that Minnetonka driving moccasins are apparently tres chic. Ha! These are the exact shoes my mom wore throughout my childhood! So, feeling a little nostalgic and wanting to have fashionable feet out here in my shed office, I bought a pair. Now every time I put them on I smile and think of my mom living in Waterloo, Iowa, wearing her Minnetonkas — ahead of her time.
Next week we also have a fashion question for My Friend Mary, a true fashionista. Remember, if you have any kind of question or dilemma put it here. It’s anonymous, of course, and it can be about anything. I’ll ask my sage friend Mary to respond and then I’ll weigh in.
Yay Waterloo!! I love Minnetonka’s!! In the past 10 years or so I’ve bought 3 pairs (2 low styles, 1 pair suede fringe high flat hippie boots). Your driving moccasins are cool!! Thanks for sharing! 💜
I had no idea you were such a Minnetonka fan! No that you mention them, though, I remember the boots!!
